COMMERCIAL PUMP STATION
Geothermal Supply Company's commercial pump station is a completely prefabricated, self-contained geothermal pumping system. This pump station is uniquely designed for geothermal applications and simplifies installation, purging, and antifreeze addition. This inclusive pumping package includes dual pumps, isolation and control valves, air removal device, and optional controls. An optional control panel allows for manual operation or automatic cycling of pumps. In manual mode, one or both pumps can be operated by toggle switches for purging. In automatic mode, the system can be set to cycle between pump 1 and pump 2 on a set operation schedule. Features also include overload heaters, circuit breakers, and indicator lights.
Air in geothermal system water causes many problems including noisy pipes and valves, corrosion, reduced efficiency, and accelerated component wear. To avoid these problems it is important to remove even the smallest air bubbles existing in the system. The Spirovent® air eliminator on the pump station constantly scrubs the system water of micro bubbles and automatically discharges removed air through a vent piped to the floor.
The pump is an Armstrong DualArm model, which allows single pumping with backup, parallel pumping, and cyclic pumping. With the common suction/discharge, and supply/return piping, you have all the benefits of each type of pumping in half the space and with half the piping materials. Each pump can be isolated for maintenance by built-in check and shutoff valves on each end. Flow is further controlled with the suction guide strainer and Flow-trex triple duty valve. Spring loaded feet isolate and cushion pump vibration.
The compact design of the commercial pump station saves space in mechanical rooms, leaving more square footage for classrooms, offices, etc. If polyethylene is used for internal piping, there is also no need for inhibitor chemical feeders or expansion equipment.
A bypass system is built-in to the pump station to allow for isolation of ground loop side and house side of system for purging. Ball valves are appropriately located to fill system and add antifreeze and Geo-loop Conditioner. P/T ports are located in appropriate areas for system evaluation, and pressure and temperature gauges can also be added if requested.
